My Personal View

...On life. Well, its really tough trying to come up with titles that begin with "My..." Scrubs style. But I like a challenge and this is as challenging as it gets. Anyway, these are just some of the really dumb things that I have witnessed or have observed as part of my day-to-day life. Some are like really long time ago, some recent but I think its good that I compiled them : ) So here goes...

Here's your average McD's Fillet O' Fish right

I think they must be affected too much by their CHO. I mean honestly... Double packaging ftw ^^

Some smart fella blocked both lanes while everyone else was waiting at a traffic light

This was awesome. Finally, someone got their just desserts

Tesco Ampang, I will be avoiding you from now on. I ain't going to a place which sells "Crap Meat" man

My Realisation

Ok, so looking back on my previous like 10 posts or so. Almost all of them have had something to do with Apple's iPhone, and if you my dear reader's are not sick of it, well I am starting to get sick of it too haha (Maybe its coz I finally got to play with one and be around one for extended periods of time muahahaha). Anyways, its just that looking forward to getting an iPhone is probably the only thing keeping me sane in this really really crappy period of my life. Won't list it out here, but lets just say sometimes I get emo too.

Anyways, been listening to Acoustic Alchemy recently thanks to a recommendation from The Lam (Dude, sorry la but you're name just doesn't sound as nice as say The Chay, The Kash, or The Thong LOL). Yeah, back to Acoustic Alchemy... Listening to the album "This Way" now. And I must say I like what I hear. Very down tempo, very easy listening. And seems they've been around for a very very long time. Since the early 80's in fact. I'm gonna try to get their earlier stuff. So far from what I can listen, their songs have like this really nice groove to it while the melodies are really smooth and the keyboard parts are excellent while still being simple.

On a side note, my classmate who's in the US now, just got his iPhone. So he'll be the only one on campus to have a bloody iPhone when he comes back to Malaysia. I'm so jealous right now!! Oh well, the iPod Touch looks just like the iPhone, but I still want the iPhone haha

[Oh] My Gawd!!!! [Update x2]

iPhone unlocked. Free! Go. Here. Now!

There has been a major breakthrough in this field. The main guys who were working on a free solution has done it! They have finally unlocked the iPhone.

The steps seem quite complicated but there is a tutorial on how to do it here and here's a MacRumors forum thread where someone compiled all the early tutorials that are floating around. You need certain files which I will download and host on my own file server just in case it disappears.

Anyways, this is great news for me. The one caveat is that when Apple updates the firmware, it could break it. But hey, just knowing it's there is enough motivation for me.

[Update]
I found another tutorial. This one with nice pictures and a step by step guide. Go here its called modmyiphone

[Update x2]
Wow, these guys are fast! Well modmyiphone has created another step by step tutorial. This time detailing the whole process from activation to unlocking. It's here.

My Friends

This post is dedicated to you guys! You know who you are, I don't have to name you one by one. But thanks guys for all the good times that we shared! All those memories, the crazy things we do. The crazy things you make me do. Haha.... Anyways, all I want to say is that its been great getting to know you all and growing with you guys in the faith. Having you guys around has really made my life more interesting.

My Disappointment

All is lost! Today, I received an email from my university saying that they will be changing their networking systems from Novell to Microsoft! When I read that email line by line, the more I read, the more disappointed/dismayed I became. We're going to be using Outlook Exchange instead of Novell Groupwise and from Novell Network to Microsoft Active Directory. Oh the humanity of it all. I used to be proud of my campus because we remained fairly neutral. Supporting OSS through the use of open and cross-platform technologies such as Java, mySQL, Apache, and Novell. Now, I see we very well could be on the pathway to a "Microsoft Exclusive Campus" or something like that. I totally hate Microsoft to the bone! If I could I would rid myself of using anything even remotely related to Microsoft. But alas, the world is as it is.

Here's the section that totally ruined my day ~_~

Why change to Exchange?

The decision to migrate to Exchange/Outlook was taken by the University Management Board following a review of GroupWise email services. This particular product was chosen based on proof-of-concept testing, wide consultation and the recommendations of a small strategy group of staff from IS, Schools and Central Services Departments.

The Exchange infrastructure will support the University's use of messaging and calendaring for the foreseeable future.

My Innocent Childhood

What started out as a lovely lunch get together for the Young Adults of Canaan Church soon turned ugly as names were hurled across the tables, which garnered lots and lots of responses from the people from the opposite sides of the tables with words and ideas being shot across as cannons being released from the broadside of a magnificent warship of old. (The author has gone a bit crazy here so excuse the language. -Ed)

So what was it about? Well, nothing much. It was just that we were reliving our childhood days. Remembering all the awesome and cool cartoons that used to fuel our imagination and our creativity. Not to mention our current state of almost-insanity. Seriously, I think all the people who were sitting around us were like wondering whether we were high on some drugs or something. We were THAT loud and obnoxious and noisy. It was THAT fun! Oh man some classics were brought back to life. Classics such as Cybercop, Ultraman, Power Rangers, Thundercats, Gummi Bears, Smurfs, Captain Planet and the list goes on. Each thought bringing a sense of nostalgia as we remembered the good times we used to have either watching the shows alone or together. Man those were good times. Simpler times. When all we worried about was how the villain would be defeated in the end. Reenacting our favourite scenes from the fresh episode, much to the chagrin of our elders as we proceeded to mess up the place. Pretending we were on distant worlds, or different and wonderful dimensions (There he goes again. -Ed)

Anyways, suddenly The Chay remembered one cartoon which we all used to enjoy. And as he was describing it, I instantly knew what he was talking about but even I could not remember the title of the show. Well Google is indeed man's best friend now. The only thing I could remember about the show is that whenever they transformed into their battle suit or whatever, they would always shout "Power Extreme~~~~" *(echoes) and that is the keyword I used.

Lo and behold, the name of the series is "The Centurions" and it was released in the year I was born, 1985. It ran on for 2 more years with about 65 episode's in total.

The Centurions with Crystal Kane.

Remember them now? That do anything to jog your memory? Well it is true as The Chay described them. They had an exoskeleton with holes in them for them to attach their weapon systems. And for old times sake, I'll list them out here.

Ace McCloud(Aerospace)
  • Sky Knight - the basic air system; small, lightly armed jet pack like air assault system with arm missiles, a chest mounted bomb and lasers

  • Sea Bat - a surface system with guns and missiles, similar to a manta ray in appearance.
  • Aqua-Blazer

John Thunder (Infiltration)

  • Thunder Knife - Tracked system that has wheels on his hands that fire lasers, a missile back pack, and the ability to turn into a spinning saw type weapon
[From the Wikipedia entry]

So there you have it. Man, makes me want to go find the DVD's or something or try finding torrents of it to watch again. Just for the fun of it. And to whet you appetite, I leave you with a treat. Enjoy.

ZOMG lookie what I found. The opening credits!

My Goodness!

Do you know what is the fastest supercomputer on the Earth today according to many leading security(?) experts? Its something called the botnet. A collection of up to 50 million(!) computers infected with the Storm worm. So all you windows users, rejoice that your computers might be part of this super network of evil! Of course you can't really help yourselves now can you. It is reported that if you calculate just the theoretical thoughput of the confirmed infected computers, it has more computing power than IBM's Blue Gene.

My Interesting Discovery

Well for all those people who are a bit worried about adding ringtones to the iPhone (like Mr. Chay) worry no more. There is an easy way of adding your own ringtones. And it really couldn't be easier.

Step 1: Apple uses a different extension for ringtones. So renaming any .AAC file to .M4R makes it a ringtone
Step 2: Double-click on the file and it will load in iTunes and be registered as a ringtone
Step 3: Sync your iPhone and voila... There you go... Your own ringtone!

I found this on the macrumors forums posted by someone with the pseudonym Cleverboy. The post is here

My Safari

OMG!!! To all my Safari using Mac brethren out there. Have you been constantly frustrated by seeing all those ads in websites? Well, I have good news for you. And it doesn't involve any complex steps or complicated install. And best of all, its free! It works well enough, I guess. I just got it so can't really comment on how effective it is. Though I must say, its working well so far. Go get it, its here. Oh, and by the way... It works for any Gecko based browser which means Firefox/Camino/Netscape. Awesome!

My Addiction

Currently addicted to WoW. No, I'm not playing on an official server because I'm too cheap xP Anyways, anyone who wants to join me can go get the client (for both PC and Mac) and start on the server I'm on. Wowscape... Come to the Alliance, and lets crush the horde! For the Alliance!!

Sunday Evening [Updated]

In a flurry of activity, I better get some serious blogging done before I hit the books and study again. This post is in response to The Chay's call for caption suggestions for one of the pictures in his Fogal Meat Market, Plaza Damaz post. I submit to you my captions...

Image stolen from Joshua's blog. Ps: Dude if you could provide me with the high quality one I'd do it over again and repost haha

Update: Thanks Josh for sending me the original, full quality picture but I realise Comic Life cuts it into 595 x 842 irregardless haha. Oh well... You live and learn

Update x2: Oh yeah while trying to upload to picasa yesterday, this happened. It made me smile. I'm glad to see that Google developers have a sense of humour. At least it doesn't only give you cryptic messages like "Error: 500" ...LOL

Sunday Afternoon

Since I have been spending my time buried in books and it is the weekend after all, I decided to take up Hong Liang's offer to go visit our dear friend Leni "Piggy" Tek and bring her out for a drink or something. And something is the more appropriate word for her I'm afraid. It started out normally enough, we went to her house. Waited awhile as she got prepared (Whats up with girls and their preparation times anyway. And we even phoned her like 1 hour in advance and told her we're on our way... Sheesh) and made our way to this new Jusco place over at Cheras. They call it the "Cheras Selatan Shopping Centre"... LOL

Moving along, we reach there right and find out Leni hasn't taken her lunch yet. So we go to one of the makan places there (those typical Hong Kong style coffee houses which seems to be really popular these days). Oh and she brought along a photo album (as in the real physical one) to show us pictures she took while she was in Taiwan.

Moving along, so we placed our order and start waiting patiently for the food. Now I almost always carry my "Baby" where ever I go so HL asked whether there was internet available in the establishment. And so I checked and found out there was none. Just as I was about to put my "Baby" back into my bag HL suggested I show Leni PhotoBooth which is an app which comes with all new Macs which allows you to take snapshots of yourself with some really cool and funky effects. That was a big big mistake. She ended up taking almost 30 pictures of herself, digitally distorted/discolored/disfigured. For the benefit of you guys here I won't post them all, but I will post some of the highlights...

Add your own captions, I'm lazy to : )

Anyways, here are some other pictures which may or may not be a representation of what happened this afternoon.

Photo Op for Leni and Hong Liang

As Leni continued to molest my baby with her funny faces, HL and I had to find other ways of amusing ourselves

Damn, at least HL had a PSP with him...

Just a little while more Baby

Ps: Forgive the overly warm tones of most of my pictures as my crappy N73 invariably only does that. Sigh.

Sunday Morning

This picture was taken while I was driving on my way to church service. What a great name for a pest control service huh. Hey I'm just presenting it here, make your own jugdements
